Rising memory costs could weigh on 2027 laptop demand

TrendForce sees notebook makers facing a trade-off as DRAM and SSD costs climb: raise prices, accept thinner margins, or reduce specifications.

TrendForce projects a low-single-digit decline in global notebook shipments in 2027, with a steeper fall possible if makers pass higher component costs to buyers. It estimates CPU, DRAM and SSD together account for about 68% of the bill of materials for a mainstream $900 notebook in Q3 2026. As lower-cost inventories run down, manufacturers may change configurations, including memory capacity, or absorb costs at the expense of margins. TrendForce expects DRAM supply to remain tight amid AI demand, while NAND availability could improve in 2H 2027.
