Altera widens DDR5 and LPDDR5 options across Agilex FPGAs

Altera is extending the usable memory envelope of its Agilex FPGA portfolio through a software and IP update rather than a new board spin. According to EE Times Asia, Quartus Prime Pro Edition 26.1.1 adds DDR5-6400 and LPDDR5-6400 support for Agilex 7 M-Series parts, expands LPDDR5 support to Agilex 3, and documents LPDDR5X device compatibility in LPDDR5-compatible mode for supported Agilex 3 and Agilex 5 devices. For memory demand, this is an adoption and design-flexibility signal rather than an immediate pricing event. FPGA designs in AI, networking, and embedded systems can qualify a broader set of modern DRAM options, which may help customers balance bandwidth, power, board space, and component availability. It also keeps DDR5 and LPDDR5-class memory relevant in long-lived FPGA platforms where sourcing flexibility matters across product lifecycles.
