SK hynix evaluates US wafer production options

SK hynix is reviewing possible locations for a new memory wafer plant as US customers push for a more regional supply base.

Price impact: 2Direction: upSource: DigiTimes Daily

SK hynix is looking at whether future memory manufacturing should be closer to major American customers. The queued DigiTimes payload says the company has been reviewing possible sites in the US and other regions for wafer-side memory production. The near-term pricing effect is limited because no location, budget, schedule, or output plan is confirmed. Still, customer requests for regional production show that memory procurement is becoming a strategic supply-chain issue. If the search turns into an approved project, it could shift where future DRAM or HBM capacity is added and reduce reliance on existing Asian production hubs.
