SK hynix has outlined a large multi-year investment program for the Chungcheong region, centered on Cheongju, with roughly KRW 80 trillion allocated to the M17 NAND fabrication plant and KRW 20 trillion to the P&T7 advanced packaging site and related facilities. The company said P&T7 is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, while M17 construction is scheduled to begin next year and operations are targeted for the first half of 2029. The company linked the project to fast growth in AI services, which it says is lifting demand for enterprise SSDs, NAND flash, HBM, and server DRAM. If executed on schedule, the investment would reinforce SK hynix's manufacturing base in Korea and support future NAND and storage supply, although the direct pricing effect is likely to be gradual rather than immediate because the new fab is still several years away.
