Framework has changed the storage configuration on its Laptop 13 Pro DIY edition after securing a lower-cost supply of ADATA Mars 970 Plus PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Customers who had pre-ordered a 500GB version will now receive a 1TB drive instead, and the company has also added a 2TB option. Framework said the new drives are not only cheaper to source but also deliver better performance and efficiency. The announcement matters because it shows that SSD procurement remains volatile at the OEM level. In this case, a memory-related component became less expensive, but Framework also warned that CPU pricing may rise soon and could push the final system price higher later. The company added that its current batch of Gen5 SSDs is limited, suggesting that this storage cost improvement may be temporary rather than a broad market reset.
