Legacy DRAM Shortage Drives DDR2 Contract Prices Higher

TrendForce research cited by TechPowerUp says mature-node DRAM tightness is pushing buyers toward older-generation parts, with DDR2 contract prices expected to keep rising in 3Q26.

Legacy DRAM is becoming a pressure point in the broader memory cycle. According to TrendForce research carried by TechPowerUp, structural tightening in mature-node DRAM supply has led some consumer DRAM buyers to procure older products to secure larger allocations. That shift is lifting older DRAM generations. TrendForce estimates DDR2 contract prices rose about 55% to 60% in 2Q26 and expects a further 35% to 40% increase in 3Q26. The report also points to continuing price momentum across legacy DRAM products including DDR2 and DDR3. For RamTrend, this is a clear example of supply scarcity spreading into mature-node and legacy components, not just leading-edge AI memory.
