AMD Buys MEXT to Push DRAM and Flash Memory Tiering in Data Centers

AMD said it is acquiring MEXT, a company focused on memory tiering software for servers. The reported technology lets applications treat flash storage as an extension of system memory by moving less-active data out of DRAM and into NAND. For memory markets, the deal matters because operators under pressure from AI and large data workloads are looking for ways to reduce pure DRAM dependence without giving up usable capacity. Near term, this looks more like a tool for better memory efficiency than a direct shock to DRAM demand, but it reinforces interest in mixed DRAM-plus-flash architectures across the data center.
