Silicon Motion targets AI inference SSDs with a DRAMless PCIe 5 controller

Electronics Weekly reports that Silicon Motion introduced the SM2524XT, a DRAMless PCIe Gen5 SSD controller for AI inference storage use cases that rely heavily on KV cache access. The controller angle matters because AI inference can shift storage requirements toward high-throughput, low-latency SSDs even outside the largest training clusters. A DRAMless design may also pressure controller and firmware efficiency rather than adding onboard DRAM content. For NAND demand, the signal is positive but still product-specific.
